Loyalty Oath

No person shall be assigned to duty as a Volunteer under this Act in any foreign country or area unless at the time of such assignment he or she possesses such reasonable proficiency as his or her assignment requires in speaking the language of the country or area to which he or she is assigned.

-The Peace Corps Act

The Peace Corps oath is the same that nearly all people who serve the United States government must affirm and uphold. Below is a copy of the same oath which Americans have been saying for decades and Volunteers have been repeating almost half a century.

I, [state your name], do solemnly swear or affirm that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, domestic and foreign, that I take this obligation freely and without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge my duties in the Peace Corps by working with the people of [the host country] as partners in friendship and in peace.
